Self-identification as a participant

Poll Everywhere allows presenters to poll their audience live and gauge the feeling of the room instantly.  At Poll Everywhere, we continuously work on encouraging the audience to join, as a poll without responses can be unhelpful and even embarrassing to the presenter.
Previously presenters had to choose between requiring email registration or anonymous participation from the audience.  However, if participants need to enter an email address, they are less likely to participate.  Conversely, presenters find little value in running reports of poll data when their participants are anonymous.
My main goal as the sole designer of this project was to provide participants with a way to set a name for themselves for the presenter they are currently responding to.  The biggest challenge was considering the existing technical constraints as well as maintaining Poll Everywhere's long-time goal of ensuring a participant can respond quickly.
